Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, widely known for developing the first hybrid rice strain(杂交水稻品种),died of illness on Saturday, May 22,2021.
The top rice scientist in China passed away in a hospital in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, at about 1 p.m., according to the news report.
Having spent over fifty years in hybrid rice research. Yuan Longping has helped China work a great wonder -feeding nearly one-fifth of the world's population with less than 9 percent of the
world's total land.
